Pet Society sticker collections were introduced today.
The mayor sent out information about the new feature in his latest newsletter:
You can go to your sticker collection by clicking the new icon on the bottom of the screen. It’s right under Momo’s feet (below). She’s not happy that yet another icon is cluttering up the playing screen.
Here’s what the sticker book looks like:
Click the blue arrow or the category titles to flip through the pages of your sticker collection. There are pages for food, clothes, furniture, toys, and plants. On each page are sticker silhouettes of items that you can collect in the game. For instance, the food pages are full of silhouettes of foods we can buy in the food shop.
Here’s how the sticker collections work. Stickers cannot be purchased, and the only way to get a sticker is if a friend gives an unopened sticker pack to you. Opened stickers cannot be gifted, and each sticker pack contains one sticker. You can give a sticker package to one of your friends by opening your sticker collection book and clicking on “send sticker packs to friends” on the left page in the front of your sticker book. This pulls up a pop-up window that lists all of your facebook friends (not just the ones who play Pet Society), and you can select a friend (or friends) to send a sticker pack to. You can send one sticker pack to eight individual friends per day. The process of sending a sticker sends your friend a facebook “gift request,” and your friend will receive a notification that you sent them a gift in facebook, outside of the Pet Society game.
If you receive a sticker from a friend, then you’ll get a out-of-game facebook notification that looks like this:
Then when you log back into Pet Society, you’ll receive the sticker pack in your house and you can open it to reveal the sticker. Each sticker has three versions: bronze, silver and gold. Gold stickers are the most rare. So far, Momo received one sticker. It’s a bronze tulips sticker. The sticker shows up at the bottom of the screen (as in the picture below).
You can then stick the sticker over its silhouette in the book.
You can look at your friends’ sticker collections when you visit them by clicking the sticker collection icon over their health/ happiness/hygiene bars. Also, Playfish has stated that more collections will be added soon.
To get a trophy, you need to “Complete 5 sticker collections in bronze/silver/gold.” That means you have to collect five full double-pages of stickers with the same color border to have five collections. So, if you collect all of the stickers of foods, clothes, furniture, toys and plants with a bronze border, you’ll get the bronze trophy.
There’s also a “sticker recycler,” which can be used to get rid of sticker duplicates. Unfortunately, you cannot gift stickers to your friends, so the duplicates just go to waste. To use the sticker recycler, drag you extra stickers to the recycle icon at the bottom left below your sticker album. When you have 1320, 2640 or 5280 sticker points, you can redeem a bronze, silver or gold sticker pack, respectively. Each of the redeemed sticker packs includes random stickers at the respective level, so bronze sticker packs will have bronze stickers in them.
Personally, I don’t think I’m going to be collecting many stickers. Most of my friends aren’t regular Pet Society players, so I doubt they’ll send me many. I tried sending a few and didn’t enjoy it, since I don’t want to spam my friends with unwanted facebook notifications and the popup window took a long time to load for me (some are experiencing major glitches and can’t send stickers at all). I think it’s really annoying that we have to send the gifts through facebook when Pet Society already has an in-game gifting system. What’s Pet Society becoming - a cutesy version of Mafia Wars?

I completely agree with you on the notification thing. I HATE Facebook notifications. Seriously, I generally have at least 100 on any given day, and I just ignore them. I didn’t even know it was a notification thing until I read your post. I just thought that none of my friends had sent me stickers. I did send out 8 stickers, but only to friends that I know play regularly. I don’t want to fill up anyone’s notification queue! I guess I don’t really get the point, either. I’d rather collect items, not stickers with pictures of items.
Zoe, I feel the same about facebook notifications, and like you, I’d rather collect items over stickers too.
So, where does our friend gets the stickers?

Yes, the sticker you find inside the sticker pack is random (with bronze stickers more common than gold stickers). That’s right, you can’t find a sticker yourself. You have to hope a friends sends you one.

i DEFINITELY agree with you on the notification thing. but message friends and mutually agree to send stickers as often as possible. that’s what i did, and i’ll just collect as many stickers as i can.

This reminds of Farmville where you are encouraged daily to send gifts to your friends, even if they are not current Farmville players.
I can understand from a marketing standpoint why they are doing this since it has the potential of getting new people to sign up (because they want to see what this thing you sent them is all about) and it encourages current players to log on more often whenever they receive a notification. However, it’s just an icon in a book, unlike Farmville where what you receive can actually be used to enhanced your farm and gameplay.
I’m with you. I don’t think I’ll be in to this much once the novelty wears off.
Lola, I see your point. I guess it is good marketing, but at the same time, farmville notifications annoyed me to the point that I hid the application in my feed. I also blocked the app all together, so that a few of my farmville-obsessed friends couldn’t send me anything. I guess the stickers will get a few people interested or more active, even if it irritates many others.
i hid Farmville notifications in my feed to! (and Mafia Wars) I was getting annoyed with those!

Not sure PSM. I read on the Playfish forums that lots of people are experiencing glitches with the system. Some can’t send stickers at all.

your friends will receive notifications..and probably(because this is free), they will also send back stickers to you..
if you receive a notification from PS..accept that then log into PS..
you will receive a sticker bag..open that and the surprise sticker will appear..

For me its senseless!
I mean, if i could send/exchange the duplicated stickers to my friends, would be great, and funny (like in my childhood, with the WWF, and Barbie album… i dont know, if you had this, but here, in my country it was a big sensation).
But in this way its simply boring.
Tisss, sticker albums were a big sensation and fad when I was a child too. I grew up in Canada, and everyone loves collecting Panini sticker albums for Barbie, Transformers, hockey players, etc. I agree that it seems pointless that we can’t give duplicates to our friends like we could in real life.

There are some problems with browser incompatibilities that Playfish is checking. If you have another web browser (ex. if you use firefox, but also have IE on your computer), you can try using that. A lot of Mac users are having problems.
I hate the fact that I have to rely on ppl to send me stickers to fill my book! also the sticker itself doesn’t apealing to me either. UGLY picture.
Miki, same here. I know I’ll never be able to complete even a page. It’s too bad we can’t search for stickers ourselves too, or find them a different way. I wish the pictures weren’t just of items in the stores.

I realy dislike this new feature. Not only it’s superspaming at it’s best, but you absolutly depend on YOUR friends, and not yourself, to actually enjoy this thing. I haven’t recieved a single sticker from my friends (they’re just plain eeeevil- *joke*)and even if you get one, you’re pretty much stuck with it (can’t trade it, can’t sell it, can’t gift it, can’t plain-recycle it, no, you can only sticker-recycle it). =/ I’ve been loving Pet Society more and more with each passing day since i first played it over a year ago (yes, I actually saw the birth of holiday themed weeks and months, and there was no cafe or stadium… and i think there wasnt even a luxury store? It’s the elderly-player-alzheimer kicking in). But this is just….uncool.
And another thing: I actually enjoyed the tutorial application because they gave us a free doll… but when you finish the whole tutorial, the book just clutters the screen! It should be like in County Story, that everytime you get to a new level, you get new “quests” (and new and better prizes)…
So far PlayFish has listened to their players (slowly but surely), and hopefully they’ll fix this.

No, Laura, you don’t have player Alzheimers (yet anyway!). You’re right that there wasn’t a luxury store back in the olden Pet Society days. I remember when there was just the one purple mystery box and it was sold in the furniture store. Like you, I love the game, but dislike the new stickers feature.
can’t they just get rid of the notifications and just let you send stickers like gifts?
i mean if they’re gonna force you to send notifications to give/get something, at least let the process be faster. i don’t like how we have to click accept for each and every sticker we get separately

I’ve gotten quite a lot of stickers, but what bugs me is that there is no reward system. Why would I want to collect stickers?
I mean, I’d love to if you could get a special item after every five stickers or something.
Also, this is off topic, but have you noticed that instead of getting 30 coins each time you visit someone, sometimes it’s 20, or even 10?!? has this always been? I feel like I’m being cheated.
You get 30 coins for any friends you visit who have been active in the past 24 hours. You get 20 coins for friends who haven’t been active in the past 24 hours. You get 10 coins if you’ve petted more than 30 (I think it’s 30) other pets. What I do is pet my active pets first so I can get as many 30 coins pet as I can before I start on my inactive pets.

That kind of makes me mad though. I think we should get 30 coins for each friend.
You get 20 coins for the first 50 friends that you visit. 10 coins for the next 25 (visited friend 51-75). Then you get 5 each for any visits more than 75. You get 10 bonus points if your friend has been active for the last 24 hours (denoted by the red pet stadium icon by their profile picture). That’s why sometimes you get 30 and sometimes you get 20. Or less.

i noticed that sumtyms, even if you accept the request, a sticker pack doesn’t arrive..
i tried to accept 6 requests at a tym, only 5 arrived..i tried 1 at a tym sumtyms, it arrives..sumtyms, there’s no sticker pack that arrives at all..
..does everybody experience this also??

pher – I have had this problem. I received at least 10 packs today, and lost 5 due to the limit you can open at a time. What a waste! I also lost 2 packs yesterday because I accepted the packs while I had Pet Society opened in another window. Didn’t think that would matter. Apparently, it does.
i like the sticker collection and i would like to send some to my friends, but the thing is, its not working at all, and i need to reload my whole pet society screen to get it working again.
I couldn’t send stickers at all today, even though it worked the first day. I think the system is really glitchy.

i hate the sticker..dont bother to use it..better they make it as ingame sticker not involving fb to send it..so stupid and lazy work for playfish..i prefer if we got the sticker in game and we just drop it in our friend house.. if we send same person it will notify that we cant give the sticker to the same person…hate sticker…period.

I think it’s a cute idea, but I haven’t been able to send any. Every time I try, it crashed PS and gives me an error message. I wonder if this is primarily affecting Mac users? I’ve tried it in Safari and Camino, and neither works. I haven’t tried with Firefox, but maybe I will do that.
I don’t know, I kind of just want to be able to send them for the novelty of it, but I doubt it’s something I will use much, frankly.

Elii, there’s only a limit on how many sticker packs you can send, and I don’t think there’s a limit on how many you can receive. I’ve heard that people who receive a lot of stickers should accept them one at a time because if you accept them together, a lot of stickers go missing.

most of my friends love to have stickers sent to them but i dont like receiving them becoz it is so bothersome to click one sticker gift at a time, arrgh! why cant we just send this as a gift like all items before?!

I added some more info above. A collection is a full two-page set of stickers. For example, all the “food” stickers are counted as one “collection.”

Hi i have problem with stikers,i didnt know that tha double side have to be only in one colour.I have brony silver and golden stikers on the side.´for example pear in bronz,apple in gold.Why cant i but on bronz stiker silver one and than golden one.
