Pet Society Tutorial September 3, 2009

A revamped tutorial was added today for me to learn how to play the game.  It’s kind of funny since I’ve played pet society for over a year. There are a set of tasks to perform, and you’ll receive 30 coins for performing each task.

petsocietytutorial

The basic tutorial has five steps:

1) Feed your pet.  Here’s one screencap as an example.

petsocietytutorial1

One new feature I noticed is that my chest did not close in my house after taking out my food/furniture!  This feature previously was only available in the garden, but not inside the house.  This update will make it much easier to decorate inside.

2) Clean your pet.   You can clean your pet by rubbing the soap on him or her.  Also, if you leave your soap/brush on the ground, your pet will now clean/brush him or herself.

3) Play with your pet.
4) Add furniture to your room.
5) Dress your pet.

After mastering these basic tasks, your pet will be awarded a Pet Graduate Scroll.

Then your pet is asked to master advanced tasks in town.

1) Go outside.
2) Visit a friend.
3) Send a gift.
4) Run a race at the stadium.
5) Go to the food shop.
6) Go to the furniture shop.
7) Go to the clothes shop.
8 ) Go to the mystery shop.
9) Go fishing.
10) Buy a flower seed.

During the tutorial, the mayor mentions that you can now change the name of your pet at any time at the stylist!  Along with that, your can change your pet’s gender and there are some new features and colors available in the color palette (not black or red though).  Before a few of the colors were “secret” colors that people used shuffle to find.  You pet can even go without eyebrows and its nose if it chooses to.

The next step of the tutorial is:
11) Plant a flower seed.
12) Wait until your flower grows
13) Pick your flower.

After pinking your flower, your pet will graduate from Pet University and be awarded with a Pet Graduate Doll!

I didn’t learn anything new, but I like the new pet graduate scroll and the pet graduate doll!

Pet Society Luxury Shop Sale August 15, 2009

Along with the updates in my previous post, there is news from Playfish that a number of items are scheduled to be discontinued in a sale in the luxury shop starting tomorrow. These items will continue to be on sale until midnight August 24th, when they will be removed from the store.

The items already have their 50% off sale prices in place, although the official sale banners are not up yet.

The luxury shop items to be discontinued, which are all currently 50% there original prices, include:
1) Playful Fish Hat
2) Floral Hat
3) Colourful Clock
4) Cutoff Shorts
5) Royal Bed
6) Metal Bed
7) Robot Pants

The good news is that since these sale prices are already in effect, it’s a good time to purchase any of these items, particularly if you’ve been waiting and saving to buy one of them.

There are a number of downsides to this news too. Firstly, these items will soon be out of the stores, and since there is only one week to buy them, this will be an expensive week if you want one of them and haven’t purchased it yet. Secondly, four of these items (the playful fish hat, the floral hat, the colourful clock and cutoff shorts) are in the gold mystery boxes. The decreased price of these items is reflected in their resale values, so finding any of these items in a mystery box won’t be very exciting anymore. Currently, the resale prices of each of these four items is worth less than the price of the gold mystery box itself. Thirdly, this news will be sad for anyone who has saved up any of the items above to sell later or to use for trading because they now worth far less than they used to.

Pet Society Updates, New Waffle, and a New Flower August 15, 2009

There are a bunch of new Pet Society updates today.  One is a change to the interface.  We no longer have to look at the  green “add coins” banner all the time. Instead, there are two new “add coins” and “add playfish cash” banners  that only appear when out pet enters a store.

Here’s how my screen looks in the cafe.  It’s still unnecessary, since we all know where the bank is, but at least the new banners are a little less intrusive than the old one.

While we’re in the cafe, you might have noticed that there’s a new waffle on sale for 40 coins!  The cafe fridge is really getting full!

There are also reports of a new flower, which can be grown from the seeds in the garden shop.  It’s a little jasmine flower.  I’ve planted some seeds, and hopefully I’ll have a picture to post tomorrow.

Pet Society Game Updates July 17, 2009

This morning, Pet Society had another maintenance period, and to reward players for being patient while the game was down for most of the week, Playfish announced that each player will receive 1,500 coins automatically upon logging in.

New mystery items are out too, and there’s another new feature.  The light switches now work!  If you leave them on the floor, the pet can turn the lights on or off themselves.  If you place the switch on the wall, you’ll have to click it to turn the lights on and off.

Here’s how it looks with the lights out.

Pet Society Cash Shop May 18, 2009

The latest news from the mayor was sent out today.

pscash

The newest shopkeeper in Pet Society is the greedy, seedy Terrence.  He speaks with a British accent.

TerrencePetSociety

To buy items in the new Playfish Cash Store, players must invest real money into purchasing a new Playfish currency called “Playfish Cash.”  Playfish cash is different and separate from the Playfish coins we have been playing with since August 2008.

PlayfishCashMachinePlayfishCashMachineScreen

The only way to earn Playfish Cash is buy paying real money.  Items purchased from the Playfish Cash store can only be gifted at the point of purchase.  This means that players cannot trade the items.

There are some pretty items in the store, and many of them claim to make earning Pet Society coins easier.  I’m pretty disappointed, since so many people on the Playfish forums have complained about difficulties in earning coins.  Now, instead of just adapting the game, Playfish wants players to pay real money to make earning fake Pet society coins easier.  What a Catch-22!

I wish Playfish had stuck to the old in-store advertisements for revenue within the Pet Society interface.  This is a screencap I took on January 10, 2009 when a Blockbuster ad was visible for a month in the food store.  There was also an ad for flowers in February 2009.  These ads were a lot less intrusive.

Does anyone else have an opinion on Pet Society Playfish Cash?

New Pet Society Add Coins Button May 2, 2009

Tonight, I logged into Pet Society to play for a bit while relaxing and watching Letterman.   I noticed a new, ugly, green button crying out “+Add coins” in the top left corner.  It’s not like I don’t know where the bank is, and there are posters in the stores trying to convince me to buy coins.  Along with the add coins button is a new green “invite” button below the playing screen.  It’s pretty redundant since there’s a blue invite button on the left of the screen too.  The buttons are getting distracting and irritating, and they make me less and less likely to ever buy coins. Spending real money to buy fake things in a game is just not appealing.

Playfish is probably doing an experiment on us to see where they get more clicks from by adding the new “invite” and “add coins” buttons, so maybe if no one clicks the new green buttons, they will just go away. *crossed fingers*
