Pet Society Mystery Items – August 13th August 13, 2010

The new mystery items are out.  I haven’t been able to find any of them. :( In the gold boxes, there’s a Pink Thread Seat and a Duck Stamp Picture. In the purple boxes, there’s a Thimble Flower Pot.

The probability of finding new items is so low now.  I also think a lot of valuable mystery items have been removed from the boxes.  I looked on my list of mystery box items and noticed that the lion plushie is no longer on the list.  Have you noticed any other items that used to be mystery items that now seem to be removed from the boxes?

In trying to figure out whether items were removed, I just found a helpful topic made by Minara from the Pet Society Forum. It’s a list of the current 999 items in the boxes and the ones that have been removed. It looks like 999 items are being removed every week now. :(

I don’t think I’ll be buying mystery boxes much anymore.  What do you think?  Have you had any luck with mystery boxes lately?

Two new items were added to the win or lose boxes in Pet Society: the black frilly dress and the pink frilly dress.  I think the Pet Society designers have forgotten that male pets exist.

The dresses sell for 166 coins each.

Do you like the new dresses?

After spending lots of coins, Momo just found the bracelet!

Pet Society Mystery Box/Egg Updates – August 6th August 6, 2010

There’s a brand new mystery box and mystery egg feature.  It’s hard to get used to the changes.  I tried the new feature out this afternoon, and think it has both good and bad points.

One of the negative points is that the feature has added more clutter to the playing screen.

By clicking the new button, you can look at all your mystery items (unfortunately, the names of the items aren’t included). I think it’s a plus that we can see how many items of certain sets that we’re missing.

You can buy mystery boxes/eggs from the new screen or from the store. Purchases from the store  will also pull up the new screen.  For buying 3 or 10 gold boxes, you’ll receive free boxes with your purchase. That’s a nice new feature (though I’ll miss my old method of buying six boxes at a time)!

Our pets can’t open the boxes/eggs by themselves anymore.  Now you can only open boxes and eggs through this mystery egg/box screen. The mystery items you open will appear on the left side of the screen. Unfortunately, the name of the mystery items are nowhere to be found while opening boxes. While you can brag about or gift the new item, you can’t sell the item.  I think a selling feature would be far more useful than bragging (a feature I’ll never use)!

I bought a bunch of mystery boxes today, and I didn’t find a single item that re-sold for 999 coins!  I think that trying to find new mystery items is near impossible, and I’m really sad that the probability of finding junk is so so much higher than finding valuable items. I don’t think mystery box hunting is nearly as much fun as it used to be. :(

Well, here’s my summary of  positive and negative points for the new mystery item feature.

Positives
Ability to see all mystery items classified in one screen
Bonuses when purchasing certain quantities of boxes/eggs

Negatives
Finding new or valuable items is nearly impossible after the update
Mystery item names are not available in the list or after opening a box/egg (how will we find new items in our inventory if we don’t know their names?)
Inability to sell new or old mystery items through this feature (it would be great to be able to sell duplicate mystery items easily)
New icon adds more clutter on the playing screen
Pets are not involved in opening boxes/eggs
Feature would be more useful if incorporated into the inventory chests, so that we could find and interact with items from a certain set, instead of just viewing them.

I used to love opening mystery boxes, but these updates took the fun out of opening mystery boxes.  Momo lost far more coins than usual, and didn’t find any nice items today.

What do you think?

Three new new mystery items were added to the Pet Society mystery boxes a couple days ago. In the gold mystery boxes, there’s a Lollipop Collection and a Sleepy Pig Plushie. In the purple mystery boxes, there’s a Jar of Crystals.

Momo had only found the lollipop collection so far. It took a lot of searching!

Two new items added to the Win of Lose boxes in the Pet Society mystery shop. The new items are the Black Lace Eye Patch and the Sweet Pink Eye Patch.

Both eye patches are really girlish and don’t quite cover Momo’s eye.  Too bad there isn’t a new item for the neglected boy pets.

Have you found the new win or lose items?

Review of Pet Society Garden Pots July 17, 2010

Pet Society’s latest clearance sale is discontinuing most of the garden pots in the Outdoor Store.  Momo and I thought we’d do a review of the garden pot collection.

Here’s the list of pots and what Momo and I think of them all:

Garden Pots on Clearance (top row, from left to right)
Glass Pot – nice and simple, large base
Green Clay Pot – great design, classy. I love this one.
Rattan Flower Pot – pretty concept, but designed badly because the soil sticks out.
Ceramic Pot – nice design, simple and classic
Pretty Flower Pot – had the potential to be cute, but designed badly because the soil sticks out slightly.
Green Pot with Ribbon – designed badly because the soil sticks out.
Brown Bear Pot – designed very badly. The soil sticks out and looks ridiculous. Could have been super-cute! This has bugged me since last year.
Paper Pot – designed badly because the soil sticks out. Could be used as a paper bag to place groceries in, instead of as a plant pot.  Would make more sense!

Pots that are still available in the outdoor store (bottom row, from left to right)
Pink Ribbon Pot – pretty, but I’d prefer it without the ribbon
Rose Flower Pot – adorable little pot. Love it.
Classic White Pot – a bit too bulky
Princess Pot – nice, would be nice to have a non-girly version too

Pots that are still available in mystery boxes (bottom row, two pots on far right)
Tropic Flower Pot (can be found in gold mystery boxes) – Nice design, and understated colors for indoor and outdoor Pet Society use.
Shell Pot (can be found in purple mystery boxes) – Useful because you can sometimes manage to place two flowers in this pot together. Also can double as a fruit bowl.

Top Three Favorites Garden Pots - Green Clay Pot, Tropic Flower Pot, and Rose Flower Pot
Most Disappointing Pots – Rattan Flower Pot and Brown Bear Pot
Ugliest Pot – Paper Pot

Ever since the Rattan Flower Pot and Brown Bear Pot were released, I’ve wished that someone at Playfish would fix them so that the soil would stay inside the pot.  I know people posted about this problem on the Playfish forums, and I’d check every once in a while to see if it was finally corrected.  I’m disappointed that these two pots, which have so much potential to be nice looking, are being discontinued without ever being fixed.  Momo and I would have definitely used these two garden pots, instead of leaving them in the inventory for months, if they didn’t look so awful.   The Pretty Flower Pot, Paper Pot, and Green Pot with Ribbon all would have looked better had the layering been correct too. Does the layering problem with the soil bother anyone else, or am I just too picky?

Have you considered buying any of the garden pots on clearance?  Which ones are your favorites?

Pet Society Mystery Paintings July 15, 2010

Momo bought three mystery paintings and put them in her art gallery.  The mystery paintings are available  for 900 coins in the furniture store and the market. Unfortunately, her owner forgot to watch them each day, so we can’t tell you how long they took to turn into paintings!

Today, I remembered to check on them.  Here are the completed masterpieces. The paintings from left to right are the ‘Romantic Violin’ Painting, the ‘Roses in Bloom’ Painting, and the ‘Grapes Triumph’ Painting.

Each painting resells for 299 coins.  I think it’s silly that the completed paintings are worth a lower value than the blank mystery canvas.

Do you like the paintings?  Is your pet an artist?
