Placing Items Inside Pet Society Shopping Bags September 26, 2009

I noticed something neat about the shopping bags that were released into the Pet Society mystery boxes yesterday.  You can place other items into the shopping bags to make it look like your pet just returned from a shopping expedition.

For example, Momo put her magic hat bunny and a candy jar inside her shopping bags.  The items sit around halfway into the bag.  I used two candy jars for comparison below.

In the list of possible trophies, you’ll notice that there are three new ones for sticker collections.  According to Playfish, these trophies are for an upcoming feature that is not available just yet.  So stay tuned!  It looks like fun. :)

Turning the Lights On and Off in Pet Society August 27, 2009

I’ve had a few questions about how to turn the lights on and off in Pet Society, so I thought I’d make a tutorial post on the subject.

When the light switches were first released in Pet Society, they had no function at all.  They were just decorations.  Recently, functionality was added to the switches, and they actually work to turn the lights on and off in your pet’s home or garden.

To turn the lights on and off, purchase a light switch from the mystery or the DIY shops (don’t ask me why they are sold in the mystery shop!).  Here’s a picture of the switches in the mystery shop.

You can place the switch on a wall or on the floor in your pet’s room.  If you place the switch on the wall, then click the switch to turn the lights on or off.  If you leave the switch on the floor of a room, then your pet can play with the switch and turn the lights on and off on their own.

There are also some new items labeled “luminous,” which will glow in the dark when the lights are turned off.   Examples include the new luminous gothic view window in the DIY store and the luminous large string light in the gadget store.  It’s important to note that some of the older lights, light fixtures and candles, which are not labeled as “luminous,” do not glow when the lights are turned off, even though they logically should light up.

Here’s an example of how the lights turn on and off and two luminous light string glows.

My pet Momo put some lights and a light switch up in her garden.

After I clicked the switch, Momo turned the lights off, and the luminous strings of lights are glowing.

Pet Society Fishing – Tutorial on How to Fish July 24, 2009

I just signed in to Pet Society and there’s a letter from the Mayor about a new fishing pond in town.

The fishing pond is just below the cash shop and stylist.  You have to exit the house and walk over to it.

Once you’re by the pond, you will see your pet has a twig rod. You’ll be asked asked to select a bait from your food chest.

I selected a tiny carrot and cast my bait.

I didn’t read the instructions very well, so my fish got away.

I tried again using a biscotti as a bait.  When a fish bites, the line will shake.  When there are no splashes, click your pet to reel the fish in. Be very careful to unclick your pet whenever the fish is struggling (when there is splashing in the water). Otherwise, the fish will get away.  Continue to reel the fish in when the water is calm.  It takes some time. On my second try, I caught a sea star baby.

On my third try, I caught a broken pot.

Then I tried fishing with a muffin.

And my pet caught a shrimp.

We can put our new fish in the aquariums, which are on sale in the garden shop.  Looks like lots of fun!

Recycling and Eco Box Info June 26, 2009

Someone asked a question on eco boxes in the comments, so I thought I’d write a post with info on recycling and eco boxes.  Recycling was introduced in Pet Society on April 9, 2009.

How recycling works:

If you have an item you don’t like or need in your storage chest, then you can drag it into the green recycling box to receive recycling points. You will receive twice as many recycling points for an item as the item’s coin value. For instance, if you recycle a retro green polo, which costs 200 coins, you’ll receive 400 recycling points.

If you want to calculate the number of expected recycling points, I’ve made two equations that are helpful. The calculations are most accurate for store-bought items, and sometimes they calculations are just 1 or 2 coins off. For fish (and pond items), you’ll receive slightly more recycling points that expected from the equations below.

To calculate your recycle points, you can use the following formulas:

Let R = recycle points, P=store price, and S=re-sale price.
The two formulas to calculate recycling points are: R=2P or R=6S.

(meaning recycling points are twice the store price, or recycling points are six times the re-sale price).

Once you collect 10,000 recycling points, you can cash out to receive one small eco box. You need to collect 20,000 recycling points for a medium eco box, and 30,000 recycling points for a large eco box. When you cash out, the recycling points will be deducted from your total to bu the eco box you’ve chosen.

From each type of eco box (small, medium, large), you have  random chance of receiving one of five items.  The items found in each type of eco box are shown below:

If you receive an item from the eco box that you don’t like, you can recycle or sell the item. Keep in mind that you won’t get the same number of recycling points that you used to buy the eco box. For instance, the seedling doll costs 10,000 recycling points, but if you recycle a seedling doll, you’ll only get 5,000 recycling points back, or you can sell it for 833 coins.

The info and images are from The Pet Society Database.

Hope this page is helpful to you!!

Pet Society Updates June 26, 2009

Another great feature introduced during the last Pet Society maintenance is the ability to buy (or sell) more than one item at a time.  This will really come in handy when I’m grocery shopping in the food store!

Another really cool thing is that we can try on clothes before buying them.  For example, now I can see how my pet would look in the wedding dress in the luxury store before buying it for 7500 coins:

Pet Society Michael Jackson Tribute June 25, 2009

Momo was sad to hear of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson’s deaths today.  In tribute, she tried to dress up like Michael Jackson (note the one white glove).

In the background, you can also see the bird popping out of the cuckoo clock (found in the large eco boxes).  I never knew that the bird popper out of the clock until today. What a surprise!
